Is there a rule in golf that you have to wear the most dorkiest clothing possible to play?

Not all but some of these guys are wearing white pants with a red shirt or grey pants and a yellow shirt and then there's the red shoes. What's up with that? They would never wear that on the street so why wear it playing golf. I like golf by the way just not what they wear.
But the colors…. Red shoes? come on

No, there's no rule, but it is a lot of fun! It is one way to psych out your opponent and get him thinking about something besides his golf game. There are even some national tournaments in the US such as the Ugly Pants Open, etc. that celebrate it, and a lot of websites that specalize in ugly golf pants (try googling it).

And, the best part, is that if you are wearing a hideous outfit, you don't have to look at it, but everybody else does.

On the pro tours, the young euros are known for getting exotic with their clothes. Sergio, Ian Poulter, and a lot of the Swedes.

Doug Sanders in the 70's was pretty out there, and farther back Walter Hagen.

I think its more of a comfort thing than they just want to wear it, I mean Golf can be pretty difficult when it comes to comfort, i have tried doing it in street clothes, and my swing was awful because the stitching in the arms gave a little bit of a rash when i went for big swings.

if it isn't that then I do not know what to tell you.

thats not true…as you can pretty much wear anything you want as long as it includes: a shirt with a collar, trousers(not jeans or tracksuits) and golf shoes……last week i wore a cardigan and a jack wills shirt with aralph lauren beanie… and they didn't give a damn!

It's great… it's the only sport that lets you dress up like a pimp.

    Q. Why is the PGA tour like the KKK?

    A. 143 white men chasing one black man.

They just finished the Masters Games (for over 35 year olds) in Geelong. One of the events was Golf.

The participants played in pairs and had "team uniforms" to add a bit of fun.
A couple of middle aged women wore long t-shirts with bikini clad bodies printed front and back … G-string bikinis
A pair of guys had face paint that would make Mel Gibson proud in Braveheart

Sadly, none of the teams wore red shoes

It is like going out for the evening. You can get away with wearing the most unusual attire that you would not wear elsewhere.
