So You Want A Golf Swing Like Tiger Woods…

The most exciting thing is happening in golf today…it is getting very popular again. While the sport never lost appeal to the die-hards, there is now a whole new group interested in the game, primarily because of Tiger Woods and his success. Just because Tiger makes things look easy, doesn’t mean they are. Golf is like any sport, it requires practice, determination and ability. Here are 3 tips on improving your golf swing:

1.First, and very few instructors approach this, you need to visualize your golf swing and the shot itself. The best way to accomplish anything is to begin with the end in mind…already having visualized the best golf swing and shot, you are miles ahead of your competition. You already KNOW what you are going to do!

2.Secondly, after seeing the swing and the shot, you need to focus on your grip of the club. There is a real tendency amongst amateurs to grip the club much too hard and tight. When you grasp the club, imagine it is a bird being held in your hand. Hold it firmly but not crushingly hard and “feel” the club in your hand. Allow it to breathe and swing freely on the axis.

3.Thirdly comes the the golf swing itself. This part of the game is worthy of an entire book alone, but there are a few things to be cognizant of during the swing. Address the ball with your feet shoulder-width apart. Then grip the club as mentioned in #2 and use your straight spine as the axis of rotation during the swing. Be sure to align the tip of your right foot, left foot and the target along a straight line. This is your aim and the goal for focusing. Use caution to insure your downswing follows this same line to avoid hitting a slice.

These tips, however brief, will help you your next time out. Just remember that Tiger Woods spends about 5-6 hours every day practicing his golf swing and other fundamentals. This is the disciplined approach that truly marks a champion. So don’t hesitate to take time frequently for trips to the driving range to work on your swing. Good Luck and Good Golfing!
